Sidney Crosby’s Injury History List

There is no debate here, Sidney Crosby is THE best hockey player in the world right now and has been for a few years. Unfortunately, he suffered a lot of injuries, not the kind of injuries that a player like Martin Havlat has, no these are all serious injuries that could end careers or slow any player down. Crosby has 665 points (238 goals and 427 assists) in 470 games and he missed a total of 144 due to injuries, so if we do a small calculation he would have around 869 points in 614 games. So now here is a list of the injuries that kept him out of the game and slowed him down to break NHL records.

NHL Injury History

2007 March 16th – A broken bone in his left foot after blocking a shot, the injury was only revealed after the playoffs.

2008 January 18th – Sidney Crosby sled feet first in the board causing a sprain ankle, he missed several games.

June 2009 – In the 7th game of the Stanley Cup Finals, he injured his knee but still finishes the game.

January 1st, 2011 – Crosby gets hit directly on the head by David Steckel, Crosby plays the next game but gets hit hard in the boards by Victor Hedman. Crosby misses the rest of the season with concussion symptoms.

December 5th, 2011 – After only is eight game back from his concussion of the previous year, Sidney Crosby collides with Boston’s David Krejci, The Pittsburgh Penguins says it a neck injury and not a concussion, he will return on March 15th, 2012.

March 30th, 2013 – Crosby received a deflected slap shot from Brooks Orpik right on his jaw getting him a nice fractured jaw and some broken teeth.

December 12th, 2014 – Sid was diagnosed with the Mumps, he is one of the many NHL players to have the mumps this year.

May 1st, 2017 – Another concussion diagnostic after a cross-check from Matt Niskanen during the playoffs against the Caps. He was forced to miss a couple of games in that series, but he was able to finish that round and the Penguins went to win the 2017 Stanley Cup.

November 14th, 2019 – Core muscle surgery. Mr. Crosby missed 28 games because of this required surgery.

March 2nd, 2021 – This one is not really an injury, but he was put on the COVID-19 NHL protocol.

September 8th, 2021 – Sid the Kid required surgery on his left wrist and his expected to miss the first few weeks of the regular season with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He did have the same surgery on the same wrist during the offseason last year… Might be an indicator that it’s the beginning of the end for the 34 year old captain.

Although he missed a lot of games since the start of his career, the Kid showed everyone that he’s the best player in the league with his domination on the ice and on the scoring sheet. Hopefully, for Penguins fans, he will come back soon from that broken jaw injury, but with his team clinching a playoff spot last week he can take his time to come back
